Written critics: Ein gut gewachsener Rüde, der mehr Substanz hat als Grimbart, auch über einen starken Knochenbau verfügt. Die Läufe sind richtig gewinkelt und das Gangwerk sehr fördernd. Überhaupt merkt man beiden Hunden an, dass sie viel Bewegung haben. Der Kopf ist schön geprägt mit durchzogener Blesse, dunklen Augen. Das Gebiss zeigt leichte Abnutzungserscheinungen. Das Haarkleid ist schlicht und wie beim Landseer gewünscht seidenweich. Ausserdem hat es genügend Weiss. Der Rücken und die Kruppenplatte sind zusammenhängend schwarz. Der Mantel dürfte wünschenswerter zerrissen sein. Beide Hunde der Landseer-Art entsprechend auf hochgestellten Läufen. Wie oben schon erwähnt, entschied letztlich das Gangwerk gegen Fafner.

Written critics: Fafner ist noch nicht fertig entwickelt und zeigt in seinem Sehnen- und Bändergefüge noch nicht die vollständige Festigkeit. Er ist tadelig in der Erscheinung, von sehr guter Grösse, ist gut proportioniert und besitzt einen kräftigen Knochenbau, die Läufe richtig gewinkelt, Rumpf schön geformt mit guter Rückenlinie, den gut gestellten Läufen entsprechend ist auch das Gangwerk ausgiebig und ohne Tadel. Der edel geformte Kopf wird sich noch etwas markanter entwickeln, zu loben sind die tiefbraunen Augen mit dem intelligenten Ausdruck und das korrekte Gebiss. Die Behaarung, im Wechsel stehend, zeigt genügend Weiss, schwarze Rücken- und Kruppenplatte zusammenhängend, Kopf schwarz mit weisser nicht durchgezogener Blesse.
